Description
As Austria's most beautiful sight and the first museum in the world, the castle is a defining feature of Europe's cultural heritage. The Tyrolean sovereign Archduke Ferdinand II had the medieval Ambras Castle converted into a magnificent Renaissance castle as a gift to his wife Philippine Welser.
Barrier-free accessibility
Entrance: Disabled parking space near the entrance portal
Inside the building: Toilet in the lower castle, lifts, rental wheelchair.
- In the Lower Castle: Armoury, Chamber of Art and Curiosities, Antiquarium, Small Armoury.
- In the high castle: inner courtyard, St. Nicholas Chapel, Philippine Welser's bath, café & bistro. Elevator installation planned.
By July 2024, all rooms are to be barrier-free accessible; with the exception of the collection of Gothic sculptures.
In exhibitions: Wooden or stone floors, wheelchair-accessible display cases, marking of glass doors, seating options
