Deafness: How to achieve sustainable awareness and qualification

Equalizent, a training center in Vienna, offers accessible training and continuing education for deaf people as well as sign language courses for hearing people.

The aim is, on the one hand, to provide deaf people with barrier-free access to education and information and to qualify them for better opportunities on the job market.

On the other hand, hearing people should be able to become active by learning sign language and set an example for inclusion. The hearing world still lacks knowledge about Deaf culture, sign language, and, above all, the removal of barriers for deaf people.

Sign language is the key to education, barrier-free communication, and a sense of equality. It's an opportunity that hundreds of hearing people embrace with enthusiasm every year.

In addition, equalizent's interactive exhibition "HANDS UP - Experience Sign Language" shows firsthand what it means to be deaf.

Led by deaf guides, hearing people experience the everyday lives of deaf people and learn interesting facts about deaf history and culture. The goal is to raise awareness in the hearing world in an entertaining and playful way and to demonstrate the importance of sign language.

This is how sustainable awareness-raising works!
