Magic without limits – The Omnium Circus from the USA

Omnium Circus from the USA, a Zero Project Awardee, shows how circus arts can break down barriers and create a sense of belonging on stage.

Omnium Circus is an inclusive touring circus based in New York City, run by women and people with disabilities. Since its founding in 2020, the organization has pursued a clear goal: to combine entertainment with social change. People with and without disabilities work together as equals on stage, backstage, and in leadership positions. Over 40 percent of the entire team are people with disabilities.

The central principle is accessibility for everyone. Shows like I'm Possible: Where the Magic of Circus Meets the Power of Inclusion The program offers bilingual moderators (ASL and English), subtitles, audio description, tactile elements, and sensory-adapted environments. Digital and hybrid formats are also designed to be accessible. The program also provides additional training. Pathways to Possibilities Artists and professionals with disabilities for long-term positions in the cultural and events sector.

The impact is remarkable: From 2020 to mid-2025, Omnium Circus reached over 140,000 people in 17 US states and five countries through live performances, outreach programs, and digital media. In 2024 alone, 25,500 live audience members were reached, supplemented by an online reach of several million people.

Three aspects make this project special:

  1. Inclusion at all levels: People with disabilities are not only part of the shows, but also shape the organization, management, and artistic decisions.
  2. Comprehensive accessibility: Accessibility is consistently implemented in performance, communication, training and digital offerings.
  3. Scalability and international perspective: The model works in a wide variety of venues – from circus tents to theatres – and is currently being tested internationally.

A quote from the team sums up the approach perfectly:
„Omnium unites performers and communities of all abilities with laughter, art, awe, and equity.“

Omnium Circus demonstrates how inclusive performing arts not only entertain but also create new images of diversity, skill, and community.
