Description

At the end of 2023, the Vienna Museum Karlsplatz will open with a new permanent exhibition on how history has made Vienna what it is today. The history of the city - the people, the ideas and the events - unfolds for visitors on three floors, drawing on the extensive collections of the City of Vienna. The recently renovated museum also offers an exciting program of temporary exhibitions and daily events as well as an extensive range of educational offerings.

Barrier-free accessibility

Entrance: A tactile floor guidance system leads to the barrier-free entrance and further into the building via a tactile model of the building to the information desk.

Inside the building: All areas of the museum are wheelchair accessible. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet on every floor. On the first floor there is a toilet for everyone with a reclining area for adults and a ceiling lift. The lifts have Braille buttons and an acoustic announcement. A floor guidance system leads to the lifts, cloakroom and tactile plans and orientation aids.

In exhibitions: When designing the exhibition, particular emphasis was placed on accessibility. There are regular seating options. Display cases, AV stations and tactile stations are accessible and can be identified with a tactile stick. Tactile markings on the floor are intended to aid orientation.
