Description
The history of Vienna - the people, the ideas and the events - unfolds over three floors in the Vienna Museum, drawing on the extensive collections of the City of Vienna. The recently renovated museum also offers an exciting program of temporary exhibitions and daily events.
Physical accessibility
Entrance: via floor guidance system and button-operated wing door next to the revolving door
Inside the building: all areas are step-free and have a tactile floor guidance system, toilets for all with a bed and lift in the basement, barrier-free toilets on every floor
In exhibitions: tactile floor guidance system, tactile plans, orientation information and description of the exhibition rooms available in the digital guide, seating options, differently designed (with/without armrest/backrest)
Accessible information and content
In Easy/Simple Language: Information about the visit in simple language on the website, wall texts of the permanent exhibition and 100 selected objects in the digital guide in simple language and as an accompanying booklet on site.
To listen: Digital guide to 100 selected objects with audio descriptions in EN, DE, ÖGS and simple language; listening stations with induction loop and 3.5mm headphone jack; texts in the in-depth station can be heard via headphones thanks to a barrier-free mode.
In sign language: All videos of the permanent exhibition have an ÖGS translation to choose from. All content of the digital guide including wall texts of special exhibitions are also available in ÖGS. More videos in ÖGS on the website.
In Braille and to touch: Overview plans and model of the house in the foyer. In the permanent exhibition at the beginning and end of each floor, tactile stations in the exhibition (paintings, objects, plans also have Braille content).
Multimedia: Digital guide with audio description, accessible via tactile QR codes, screen reader compatible wall texts, videos, listening stations
Inclusive Art and Culture Education
Target group-specific tours: Guided tours in simple language, ÖGS, multi-sensory tours
Target group-specific workshops: Workshops in easy-to-understand language, simple language and for seniors
Sensory mediation aids: Tactile objects, smelling and listening stations. Bags for people sensitive to stimuli that can be borrowed from the information desk. These contain, for example, noise-cancelling headphones, a stress ball, an hourglass, a magnifying glass and pictograms.
