Using selected tactile objects and listening stations, the significance of radio for Austrian contemporary history is addressed.

Radio has shaped society for around 100 years – bringing information and music into people's living rooms. In times of dictatorship and Nazi terror, it was a central tool of propaganda, while in times of democracy it represented an important opportunity for free expression. The 80 years of the Second Republic, in particular, demonstrate the extent to which the media shapes everyday life. How have people raised their voices over time? And what role do independent reporting and diverse perspectives play in democracy?

The House of Austrian History makes contemporary history audible and tactile and warmly invites blind, visually impaired and sighted people to this inclusive offering.

Duration: approximately 60–90 minutes

The next and final dates in December and January are:

Sunday, December 7, 2025, 2:00 PM

Thursday, January 8, 2026, 6:30 p.m.

The special exhibition ends in January 2026, so these are the last opportunities!

Registration via email at vermittlung@hdgoe.at or by phone on 01 534 10 – 799 (Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm).

More information here

The House of Austrian History (hdgö) has developed the audio and tactile tour "Hearing and Feeling Radio History" for the current special exhibition "It's Sparking!
