For five weeks in May and June, theater, music, opera, and performance productions are presented, and socio-political issues are explored through art. With Milo Rau's directorship in 2024, a radical reconceptualization of the festival began, involving the public. What kind of art does our time need? And how can a festival radically implement its socio-political goals?

The result: The Free Republic of Vienna, proclaimed at the opening in 2024, sees itself as a place that should be open and accessible to all people. Therefore, the Vienna Festival is actively committed to identifying and gradually dismantling barriers – on, in front of, and behind the stage.

Program 2026 and information here

We are continuously working to improve accessibility.
