The Pregarten Museum opens its 2026 season on Saturday, April 11, 2026, with a reading by prehistorian and author Jutta Leskovar. Two years ago, she presented her two historical novels about the Hallstatt period at the museum (Salt Mountain Goddess and Salzbergerbin) before. With their third volume Salt Mountain Death Leskovar once again transports the reader to the time around 400 BC: She paints a vivid picture of the people around the salt mines, their work, their social conditions, as well as the enmities, intrigues, friendships, and love. The reading offers insights into the research and creation of the novel, as well as excerpts that immerse the audience in the world of the Hallstatt period.
In her novels, the author manages to "give faces to the past and fill the gaps left by archaeological research." (Jutta Leskovar)
At the same time, the new exhibition series begins. outsourced, which begins with the presentation of some early works by the well-known Pregarten artist Prof. Herbert Friedl.
Friedl, the son of a working-class family of farming origin, completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and later attended the graphic design department at the Higher Technical Federal Institute in Linz. From 1978 onwards, he worked freelance in the fields of painting, printmaking, and object and spatial design. He lived and worked in Pregarten and Linz, and his work consistently explored his immediate and formative environment.
The small exhibition also showcases a selection of his numerous book designs. The presentation offers insight into the diverse work of Friedl, who lived from 1943 to 2018, and his close connection to the region.
