Accessibility at the Vienna Festival

The extensive cultural program of the Vienna Festival can be experienced and enjoyed until June 21st. The festival, which sees itself as an open and accessible place for all people under the motto "Free Republic of Vienna," also implements a number of accessibility measures.

Language
Most performances are shown with German and English surtitles. More detailed information can be found on the website on the respective production and event pages. Selected performances are also interpreted into Austrian Sign Language.

Barrier-free access
Venues marked with a wheelchair symbol have wheelchair-accessible seating and barrier-free access. The production detail pages provide up-to-date information on sensitive content, including the use of fog or strobe effects, as well as age recommendations, age restrictions, and trigger warnings.

The Vienna Festival is one of Europe's most important arts and culture festivals, fostering contemporary global artistic dialogue, commissioning works, and co-producing them. For five weeks in May and June, theater, music, opera, and performance productions are presented, and socio-political issues are explored through art. With Milo Rau's directorship in 2024, a radical reconceptualization of the festival began, involving the public. What kind of art does our time need? And how can a festival radically implement its socio-political goals?

The result: The Free Republic of Vienna, proclaimed at the opening in 2024, sees itself as a place that should be open and accessible to all people. Therefore, the Vienna Festival is actively committed to identifying and gradually dismantling barriers – on, in front of, and behind the stage.
