Access City Award – Vienna was the last winner

Making tourist destinations accessible and inclusive is a concern not only for the cultural and tourism sectors, but also for the EU. Since 2010, the European Commission has presented the Access City Award annually to cities that are particularly committed to accessibility. In 2025, Vienna the winner of the Access City Award.

The award is open to all EU cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants. All cities applying within a member state are first evaluated at the national level by a jury. This jury then makes a shortlist of no more than three cities. Subsequently, a jury at the European level selects the winning cities from all candidates. Decisive factors for victory are measures already implemented and planned in the following areas: 

  • built environment and public spaces
  • Transport and infrastructure
  • Information and communication
  • public institutions and services
