Hear and feel radio history – tactile and audio tours at the House of Austrian History

The House of Austrian History (hdgö) has created the audio and tactile tour “Hear and feel radio history". Using selected tactile objects and listening stations, the significance of radio for Austrian contemporary history is addressed.

Radio has shaped society for around 100 years – bringing information and music into people's living rooms. In times of dictatorship and Nazi terror, it was a central tool of propaganda, while in times of democracy it represented an important opportunity for free expression. The 80 years of the Second Republic, in particular, demonstrate the extent to which the media shapes everyday life. How have people raised their voices over time? And what role do independent reporting and diverse perspectives play in democracy?

The House of Austrian History makes contemporary history audible and tactile and warmly invites blind, visually impaired and sighted people to this inclusive offering.
